For her poster presentation, Mind Over Matter: The Obstacles and Importance of Providing Psychological Care to Collegiate Athletes, Wayne examined current mental health resources available to student-athletes at Duquesne and shared stories from athletes as they navigate barriers to psychological care.
her research found that duquesne athletes prefer to seek mental health services from athletic trainers and friends over the counseling and wellbeing center. 69.57% of survey participants were most comfortable going to teammates for mental health support, while 58.33% felt extremely comfortable seeking help from their athletic trainers.
